Protecting Your Pages

How to mark pages Presstack must never change, and what protection does.

Updated

Some pages are just right as they are: a homepage you've spent weeks on, a legal page your solicitor wrote, a landing page for a campaign. Protecting a page tells Presstack to leave it completely alone.

What Protection Does

On a protected page, Presstack and Cleo change nothing, whether automatically or from a button, and they don't suggest changes for it either. Protected pages never appear in your To Do list.

Pages Are Protected From The Start

You don't need to do anything to be safe. By default, every published page on your site is protected. Blog posts and drafts aren't included, because those are the things Cleo is there to help with.

Choosing What's Protected

Protection is set on the Pages screen. Open Pages in the Presstack menu.

Everything, Or Just The Key Pages

The Protect menu at the top has two choices:

  • Every Published Page: every published page is protected (the default).
  • Key Pages Only: only the pages that matter most are protected: your homepage, privacy and terms pages, your contact and about pages, and your shop, cart, checkout and account pages.

One Page At A Time

Each page has a shield. Click it to switch that page between Protected and Unprotected. Hover over it to be reminded what it does.

If you ask Presstack to refresh a protected page, you'll see This Page Is Protected, with the option to Unprotect And Refresh. You can protect it again at any time.

Tip: If you want Cleo's help improving a page, unprotect just that one. Everything else stays protected, and anything she changes on it can be put back from History for 30 days.
