The Blog Calendar

Letting Cleo plan a month of posts, how she picks topics, and changing the plan.

Updated

Writing one post is easy. Keeping a blog going every week for a year is the hard part. The Blog Calendar solves that: Cleo plans weeks of posts ahead, and you can see them all in one place.

Open Blog → Blog Calendar.

Planning A Month

Press Plan Next Month. A window opens where you choose:

  • Plan By: Per Week or Per Day, and how many posts.
  • Over How Long: from the next 7 days to the next 2 months.
  • Publish On These Days and Publish Within These Work Hours: so posts land when you want them to.
  • Focus Areas (Optional): topics you'd especially like covered.

At the bottom, Cost Breakdown shows what the plan will cost in total once every post is written. Press Approve & Plan to fill the calendar.

Two things to know when you approve:

  • Nothing is charged now. Researching and planning are free. Each post is charged when Cleo writes it, so if you remove a post before then, it costs nothing.
  • Approving turns on the Auto Writer, so posts are written as their dates come round without asking again. You can turn it off at any time. See The Auto Writer And Your Budget.

How Cleo Picks Topics

She doesn't guess. She looks at four things:

  • your Knowledgebase: what you do, where, and for whom;
  • your Search Console data: searches you're close to ranking for;
  • what's trending in your area of work;
  • what you've already written, so she fills gaps instead of repeating you.

Repeats are removed, both exact ones and posts that would say the same thing in different words.

Looking At A Planned Post

Click any post on the calendar to see its details: the title (click to edit it), the date, the Focus Keyword, Why Cleo Picked This, and the other titles she considered. Its status shows where it's up to, such as Planned, Writing, Draft Ready or Published.

Changing The Plan

  • Move a post: drag it to another day.
  • Edit a title or keyword: click it in the post's details.
  • Write it now: press Write Now to open it in New Post and write it straight away.
  • Remove a post: press Delete. If it hasn't been written yet, it's simply taken off the calendar. If it has, it's taken off the calendar but the post itself stays on your site.
  • Start again: Clear Planned removes every post that hasn't been written yet. Published posts are kept.

If Posts Aren't Being Written

The calendar tells you if something's stopping it. The Auto Writer Is Off — Nothing Will Be Written Automatically means just that: press Turn The Auto Writer On. If a post shows Budget Gated, this month's budget has been used up; see The Auto Writer And Your Budget.
