Refreshing Old Posts
Bringing older posts back to life: Light Touch or Full Rewrite, and finding posts that are losing visitors.
Posts age. Facts go out of date, competitors publish something better, and a post that brought in visitors every week slowly fades. Refreshing a good old post is often worth more than writing a new one, because it already has a place in Google.
Refreshing One Post
On Blog → Posts, open a post's menu and choose Refresh The Post. You'll be asked how:
- Light Touch (recommended): rewrites the text for freshness and today's search, keeping the post's structure the same.
- Full Rewrite: keeps only the title and web address, and writes the whole post again from scratch. You can choose to Keep Images or Replace Images.
Either way, you'll see the cost before anything happens.
Previewing A Full Rewrite
For a Full Rewrite you can tick Preview First. Cleo writes the new version without touching your post, and shows it beside the current one: Current (Before) and Rewrite (After). You can edit the new version there, then press Apply This Rewrite or Discard. You're charged when the preview is made; applying it costs nothing more.
Finding Posts That Are Fading
Blog → Content Refresh finds posts that are getting fewer clicks from Google. It needs Search Console connected.
Cleo compares each post's clicks over the last month with the month before. A post is flagged when:
- its clicks have dropped by at least 30%;
- it had at least 5 clicks before;
- it's at least 120 days old;
- it hasn't been refreshed in the last 60 days.
Press Find Fading Posts to see the list. Each shows how its clicks have changed and its position in Google.
From here you can:
- press Refresh Now to refresh the most-faded posts straight away (each refresh uses credits); or
- turn on Check Daily And Suggest Refreshes, so Cleo checks every day.
Refresh Depth sets whether those refreshes are Light Touch or Full Rewrite.
Letting Cleo Do It
What happens to the posts the daily check finds depends on Blog Post Upkeep in Cleo → Autonomy:
- Ask Me: each fading post becomes a suggestion in your To Do list, for you to approve.
- Links And Refreshes: Cleo refreshes them herself. Choosing this also switches the daily check on.
Each post is refreshed at most once every 60 days, and every refresh appears in History, where you can put it back.
